Scarless Gender-Affirming Vaginoplasty

Your Path to a Scar-Free Transition

From my experience performing over 100 gender-affirming surgeries, I’ve found that transgender women seeking this surgery generally have two main desires:

  1. Achieving a beautiful external genital appearance resembling natural female anatomy,
  2. And a functioning neovagina for sexual intercourse similar to cisgender women.

The Challenge

While traditional vaginoplasty techniques have been successful in creating a close resemblance to natural female anatomy, the presence of surgical scars on the labia majora has been a significant concern for many.

These scars, particularly noticeable in individuals with minimal or no hair growth, can be an unwelcome reminder of your surgical journey.

The surgical scar on the labia majora results from trimming excess scrotal skin and suturing the wound to create a smooth labia majora.

The skin removed is then used to create the neovaginal lining for individuals undergoing surgery using the scrotal skin grafting method (or discarded if another technique is used).

Innovative Solution

To address this concern, I’ve devised a new technique to close the wound in the labia majora, aiming to conceal the surgical scar as much as possible.

This new technique involves considering the natural vulva’s anatomy, particularly the “interlabial sulcus,” the groove that separates the labia majora and labia minora.

By strategically placing the surgical scar within this sulcus, the exposed scar on the labia majora becomes less visible, and I refer to this approach as “Scarless Gender-Affirming Vaginoplasty.”

Traditional Vaginoplasty VS Scarless Vaginoplasty

Please refer to the image below showing the difference between a traditional vaginoplasty versus a scarless vaginoplasty.

Limitations and Personalization

While this technique is feasible for the majority of individuals undergoing the surgery, in cases where the original male genitalia are very small or there’s minimal skin in the scrotal area, achieving complete scar concealment might not be as effective.

Your Next Step

If you’re considering this path, I encourage you to reach out for an assessment.

Sending photos for evaluation or undergoing an examination before surgery is crucial.

After assessment, I will inform you whether this scar-concealing method is viable for you.
